"I have balanced 20 foot pieces of 2 inch drill rod we used for air track drilling. It looks really cool when they are standing straight up with no apparent means of support but they are very heavy and could do major damage if one fell on you. I have also balanced ice. It is challenging in different ways and requires some extra warm gear. I have also been seen balancing logs straight up on the beach but find them less interesting.
When I was a kid I used to try and balance everything on the table at restaurants driving my family nuts. I dabbled in egg balancing on full moons and soltices with little success and practiced on golf balls, fruit and most recently pumpkins. Those experiments were fun but they just proved that rocks are the best medium for me.

Funny how many people take instability for granted and don't even try for balance. - learner Charles Shaw
