Artists working in a broad range of media and disciplines have found inspiration from the subtle, powerful forces at play which uniquely pattern a balanced array of rock or stone.

The center image above above is the work of renowned Australian glass artist Chris Pantano, whose richly colorful swirls of blown glass stones accentuate the accurate rendition of the balance he creates with rock and stone in his own garden.

The image to the left of center is by book illustrator Lee Harper, whose family story of rock balancing beavers became a set of watercolors. The original of this painting is avaible on a Sales Gallery on this site.

To the right of center, the whimsical, Rube Goldberg-esque creations of Barbara Trombley might surprise those best familiar with her Art Glitter endeavors, while Arthur Higgins (far left) is a professional sculptor, with an extensive online portfolio.

The sketch on the far right was by Urban School Art 9b student Emily Harrison, who was drawing Bill Dan's balancing sculptures as he was making them during a joint Art/English field trip specifically seeking inspiration from his work.

The background image in the heading of this page shows formal building decorations called finials, of a variety often found in Portugal. Such detail may have simultaneously shown off the stoneworking skill of the builders while warning passersby below of approaching earthquakes in time to seek shelter.
