Others: Imagined Balancing

Corey Flail was formerly listed as a Lost Balancer on this site. A friend of his wrote this webmaster to say that Corey was not in fact "lost", but imprisoned, in North Carolina, for a marijuana cultivation offense.

Corey had previously been described by the Asheville, NC Mountain Xpress as an installation-artist whose multimedia exhibit, "Six Fires of Surrender and Some Rocks Along My Path", was on display at Pack Place, Asheville's art and cultural center. According to the article, it featured "sculptures specially made for the exhibit, an interactive area for folks to test their own balancing skills, and photographs of Flail's past pieces."

Upon his release, Corey is invited to have the audio-visual portion of his exhibit hosted on this site, and to contribute images from the vast collection of balances he writes to say were "done on lakes in Missouri and creeks and rivers in North Carolina", and "in snow and ice with moss-covered rocks in winter." And, of course, he will balance again.

Until then, he will have to be content with the balances of his mind, spirit, and imagination, given form in images such as the one above (used by permission), done by fellow inmate James Fogelman, whose art graces envelopes on outgoing mail from Corey (DOC#0922123) at the Sanford Correctional Center.
