The "Western North Carolina Rock Stackers" are a group of friends who have together created hundreds of stacked and balanced pieces in their yards, landscapes, farms, and rural acreage. Including gardeners and landscapers, as well as a metal sculptor and a worker with the handicapped, the group refers to their art as "stacking", but think of it as suiseki ("viewing stones" - a Japanese tradition related to bonsai). Group member Joe Hill writes that, "It would be difficult to attribute any of these stacks to an individual as on some it is a true group effort to hoist large stones on top of each other." He adds that "as a twist", they "try to always stack in prime numbers." Other participants include Phil and Venus Bowman (who have contributed a Reflection to this site), David Cline, David "The axis acts as your axis" Rudisill, and Dick Sinclair. The group's work is hosted on this site in a Guest Directory.
