Although there are no examples of simple balanced rocks in the movie "Rivers and Tides", the images of Andy Goldsworthy at work and the inspiring narration help any viewer understand why he is the towering figure of natural sculpture, from arched rocks to torn flower petals to wind-tossed snow. See it if you can. His undaunted persistence is seemingly limitless.

Much of Andy's art is intended to be ephemeral; a slight breeze, a rising tide, a change in the current on which it rides, and only the photo remains, often considered a work of art itself. Museums, private collections, and Andy's several books save a record for us to see, appreciate, and integrate into our lives. Even his most durable constructions such as walls and animal enclosures are built with the knowledge and intention that they will not survive the passage of time.
