Rock sculpture by Jerry Kuyper was recently highlighted in the Connecticut 24/7 volume of the America 24/7 series. His art can be seen more directly in his online Photo Album, with images of thoughtfully arranged and precariously balanced mixed constructions from Maine to Switzerland. He has contributed a Reflection on Harmonious Balancing.
Prints of Jerry's work are available in the Sales Galleries.
Through the discipline of Metapoetics, cross-media artist George Quasha has come to a sense of The Axial, which informs all his work. His Axial Stones have shown in major galleries, and were recently displayed with works by John Cage at the Baumgartner in New York. A quote from his extensive essay on "Works in Radical Balance" can be found on a Reflections page on this site. His summary aphorism, "Beauty = Optimal x Precarious", rings true indeed!
George's new book, Axial Stones is reviewed on this site.
Joel Carter, MD, specializes in emergency medicine and Rockpeople which he finds helpful to "heal the broken places" of the soul. His site features rock art, stunningly colored photos, and his published works of stories, words, "and other free associations". His reflections reveal a profound depth of meaning to what for some might otherwise be an aimless diversion.
Based in Florida, Team Sandtastic has recently added rock stacking and balancing to their vast repertoire of sand castle and ice sculpture entertainments exhibited internationally. Team member Mark comments, "Florida doesn't have that kind of rock naturally. We have to buy them from a rock supply." But they obviously know what to do with them.
The "bell of the dharma" is rung by Italian balancer Renato who includes directions for beginners as well as philosophy; "è una metafora dell'impermanenza, concetto fondante di molte filosofie: la precarietà degli equilibri sembra procedere di pari passo con la bellezza della realizzazione" ( machine-translated here on a Reflections page of this site.)
